Taco Bell's Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada Landed October 15 at $3.49 — and Taco Bell Named No End Date

Published Oct 9, 2026Updated Oct 26, 2026Officially confirmed

Taco Bell's Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada reached participating Taco Bell restaurants nationwide on October 15, 2026, the start date Taco Bell published, at $3.49 for a limited time while supplies last; it is listed on Taco Bell's own menu as of that day. Taco Bell has not announced an end date, and the October 15 to 28 window quoted alongside the item is the Taco Bell Rewards birthday reward, not the empanada's last day.

  • On Taco Bell's US menu since October 15, 2026, the date Taco Bell named — it now has its own product page under sweets — at participating restaurants, while supplies last.
  • $3.49. Taco Bell states that price in its own announcement and notes that prices vary by location, with tax extra.
  • Still no end date. Taco Bell calls the empanada limited-time without naming a last day, so "while supplies last" is the only limit on its run.
  • October 15 to 28 is the Taco Bell Rewards birthday-reward window, not the item's run: members with a birthday saved to their profile choose either a free empanada or a regular Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze in the app.
  • Taco Bell describes it as a crispy, golden dessert empanada with cake batter-flavoured filling, pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles, in custom packaging.
  • The third Taco Bell and Milk Bar item: Strawberry Bell Truffles in 2022, Birthday Cake Churros in 2025.
  • Re-checked October 17, 2026: the product page is live and the item is still on the menu, two days after launch, with no end date announced.
  • Re-checked October 26, 2026: the empanada is still listed on Taco Bell's own sweets menu and Taco Bell has still named no end date. The Rewards birthday-reward window closes October 28 — the empanada itself is not scheduled to end then.

What was announced

On October 8, 2026, Taco Bell and Milk Bar announced the Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada, a dessert empanada with a cake batter-flavoured filling, pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles. Taco Bell said it would be available nationwide at participating restaurants from October 15, 2026, for a limited time while supplies last, at $3.49, and that Taco Bell Rewards members with a saved birthday could claim one free, or a regular Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze instead, between October 15 and October 28 through the app.

Why it matters

It is the third Taco Bell and Milk Bar collaboration since 2022 and the clearest sign yet of Taco Bell building out a dessert line, after chocolate fudge and caramel empanadas earlier in 2026. It is also a case where the dates in circulation are easy to misread: the October 28 cutoff belongs to a loyalty-app birthday reward, while the empanada's own run has no announced end.

What Taco Bell announced

Taco Bell and Milk Bar said on October 8, 2026 that they had turned Milk Bar's Birthday Cake flavour into a Taco Bell dessert empanada. Taco Bell describes it as a crispy, golden empanada with a cake batter-flavoured filling, topped with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles and served in custom packaging made for the collaboration.

It goes on sale nationwide at participating Taco Bell restaurants on October 15, 2026, for a limited time while supplies last, at $3.49. The price is Taco Bell's own, published in its announcement, and the company adds the usual footnote that prices vary by location and tax is extra.

Liz Matthews, Taco Bell's Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, said in the announcement that "our fans have shown us they love seeing familiar flavors show up on the Taco Bell menu in exciting ways". Christina Tosi, Milk Bar's chef and founder, said what she likes most is "seeing a flavor people know so well show up in a way they never expected".

The two dates, and which one is the end date

Two date ranges came out of the same announcement and they are not the same thing.

The empanada itself goes on sale October 15 for a limited time, and Taco Bell did not say when that run finishes. "While supplies last" is the only limit the company put on it.

Separately, Taco Bell Rewards members who have saved a birthday to their profile can claim a free Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada or a regular Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze as their birthday reward between October 15 and October 28, redeemed through the Taco Bell app at participating locations while supplies last. That October 28 date closes the free-reward offer. It is not the day the empanada leaves the menu, and nothing Taco Bell has published says when that will be.

So the honest answer to "when does it end" is that no last day has been announced.

Checked on October 15, 2026, the day Taco Bell named. The empanada is on Taco Bell's US menu: it has its own product page under sweets and also appears on the featured menu, which is the company's own listing rather than an announcement about a future date. The September announcement is unchanged and still attaches no end date, and Taco Bell has published nothing to delay or withdraw the item.

Two limits on what that menu listing proves. Taco Bell's national menu pages do not carry prices — those load per restaurant — so the $3.49 on this page remains the figure from Taco Bell's own announcement, not one read off a menu. And a national listing is not a promise about any given restaurant: "participating restaurants" is Taco Bell's own wording and still applies.

The third Milk Bar item in four years

Taco Bell names two earlier collaborations with Milk Bar in its announcement: Strawberry Bell Truffles in 2022, which paired Milk Bar cake truffles with pieces of Taco Bell's crunchy taco shell, and Birthday Cake Churros in 2025, filled with Birthday Cake frosting and finished with pink confetti sprinkles. The empanada reuses the 2025 flavour in a new format.

Nation's Restaurant News reports that the item was first teased at Taco Bell's Live Más Live event in March 2026, and that Taco Bell launched chocolate fudge and caramel dessert empanadas in March as part of a broader push into desserts.

Common questions

When does the Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada come out?
October 15, 2026, at participating Taco Bell restaurants nationwide in the US, for a limited time while supplies last.
How much does it cost?
$3.49. That figure comes from Taco Bell's own announcement, which notes that prices vary by location and that tax is extra.
When does it end?
Taco Bell has not announced an end date. It calls the empanada limited-time and available while supplies last, without naming a last day. The October 28 date in much of the coverage is the cutoff for the Taco Bell Rewards birthday reward, not for the item.
How do I get one free?
Taco Bell Rewards members with a birthday saved to their profile can choose a free Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada or a regular Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze as their birthday reward from October 15 through October 28, redeemed in the Taco Bell app at participating locations while supplies last.
