KFC U.S. announced on October 15, 2026 that it is moving its U.S. beverage partnership to The Coca-Cola Company. The transition begins in January 2027, and KFC says Coca-Cola products are expected to be served in all of its U.S. restaurants by spring 2027. What was announced

A beverage partnership, in KFC's framing — not a switch. KFC U.S. announced on October 15, 2026 that beginning in January 2027 it will transition its U.S. beverage partnership to The Coca-Cola Company, with Coca-Cola products expected in all U.S. restaurants by spring 2027. The release carries quotes from KFC U.S. President Catherine Tan-Gillespie and from Dagmar Boggs of The Coca-Cola Company, ties the move to KFC's Kentucky Fried Comeback, and describes the intent as creating food-and-drink pairings. It does not mention PepsiCo, name any drink, or count the restaurants involved.

Why it matters

A fountain change at every KFC in the country is a bigger menu event than most single-item launches, and it is one of the few announced for a date far enough out to be tracked rather than reacted to. It is also a case where the coverage and the company's own statement differ in substance rather than wording: the restaurant count, the end of the Pepsi era and the international carve-out all come from reporting, while KFC confirmed only a start month, a target season and a new partner. Keeping those apart is the point of this record.

What KFC actually announced

KFC U.S. issued a release on October 15, 2026, datelined Plano, Texas, titled "Two Secret Recipes, One Iconic Partnership". Two sentences in it carry the facts.

The first: beginning in January 2027, KFC will transition its U.S. beverage partnership to The Coca-Cola Company. The second: Coca-Cola products are expected to be served in all U.S. restaurants by spring 2027.

That is the whole of the confirmed timetable. January 2027 is a start, not a completion, and "spring 2027" is KFC's own word for when the rollout should be finished — a season rather than a date, which is how it is recorded here.

The release quotes Catherine Tan-Gillespie, President of KFC U.S., saying she is incredibly excited to bring KFC and Coca-Cola together and describing them as two originals with deep consumer love. Dagmar Boggs, President of Foodservice and On-Premise, North America at The Coca-Cola Company, is quoted saying the partnership brings Coca-Cola and KFC together across the U.S. for the first time.

Three things the announcement does not say

Most of what circulated about this change is not in KFC's release.

It does not mention PepsiCo. Not once. The release is written entirely as the arrival of a new partner, and gives no reason for ending the old arrangement — so this page does not state one either.

It does not give a restaurant count. KFC says "all U.S. restaurants" and leaves the number out. Fox Business reported the figure as roughly 3,700 U.S. locations; that number is the publication's, not KFC's.

It does not say what happens outside the United States. The release describes a U.S. beverage partnership and is silent on other markets. Nation's Restaurant News reported that PepsiCo will remain KFC's beverage partner in international markets, and Fox Business, citing Reuters, reported that PepsiCo recently renewed agreements covering Taco Bell and KFC's international restaurants. Both are reporting, not KFC statements.

Which drinks change is not yet known

KFC has not named a single specific beverage. Its release refers only to Coca-Cola products and to Coca-Cola's broad beverage portfolio, and describes the aim as food-and-drink pairings rather than a line-up.

So the practical question — what will actually be in the fountain in place of Pepsi, Mountain Dew and the rest — has no answer from KFC yet. Anyone stating a specific replacement list today is inferring it from Coca-Cola's catalogue rather than reporting it. This page will record the line-up when KFC publishes one; the January 2027 re-check on this record exists for that.

The arrangement this replaces ran from 1986

Nation's Restaurant News reported that PepsiCo bought KFC in 1986 and made Pepsi the exclusive beverage partner for its U.S. locations, and that the partnership continued even after PepsiCo spun KFC off into Yum Brands in 1997.

That is where the "nearly 40 years" framing in the coverage comes from. It is worth separating from KFC's announcement, which makes no historical claim at all.
